Welcome to Lutheran Lenses! What events, trends, or cultural topics would you like to see addressed from a Lutheran Perspective? What do Lutherans do that you’ve always wondered about? We want to hear from you!
The election is over. Maybe your candidates won. Maybe they lost. If they won, perhaps you feel elated. If they lost, perhaps you feel depressed, concerned, frustrated or even scared. As Christians, we take great comfort in knowing that God is in control. Ephesians 1:20-21 tells us that Christ reigns at the right hand of the Father, above all authorities in heaven and on earth, in this age as well as in the age to come.
Sometimes Christians are unsure of where to begin in prayer. What does one say? How does one approach the throne of God? Is there a right way to pray? What if one doesn’t know all those fancy church-sounding words? Maybe we’re not as eloquent with words as someone else that we know. Do we just ask for stuff? How do we start? Sometimes, not knowing where to begin prevents us from getting started at all. I have good news! Luther once said “the fewer the words the better the prayer”.
In a nutshell, Andy Stanley’s new book, Irresistible: Reclaiming the New that Jesus Unleashed for the World (Zondervan: 2018), is exegetically weak, promotes multiple heretical notions, denies the proper distinction between Law and Gospel and is a blatant attack on God’s divinity and the authority of the Christian Scriptures.
